Meet the Program Director

Dr. Biery is Board certified in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM), the newest ACGME approved specialty focusing primarily on treating musculoskeletal conditions and the musculoskeletal manifestation of systemic disease utilizing Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment.  In our contemporary medical model, both DO’s and MD’s practice of medicine looks very much the same.  Osteopathic Medicine was founded in a time when the practice of medicine was heroic and often had no answers for the conditions of the day.  It grew into a philosophy based practice using the tri-union of man (mind, body, spirit), the interrelatedness of structure and function, and the body’s ability to heal and self-regulate as a structure to base treatment decisions.  In an effort to aid diagnosis and treatment, patterns of palpatory findings in the musculoskeletal system began to emerge and seemed to correlate with both musculoskeletal and systemic conditions.  Then with the application of gentle pressure or accentuated range of motion, these findings would improve or resolve and so would the condition that brought the patient to the physician in the first place.  This was the beginning of the practice of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.
